About

I live in Belfast and graduated from a Fine Art degree in University of Ulster in 2003 and an MA in Irish Visual Culture in 2006. I have a studio in the Cathedral Buildings in the city centre shared with other artists and have been practicing steadily since my graduation in 2003. I currently lecture part time in Art and Design in the Northern Regional College.

This blog is for my landscape work.

All the work on the blog is painted plein air -as in I stood in the place with my easel and paints and painted what I saw, when I went home that was it -painting finished -The aim with this type of painting is to record an impression or experience of the place over the time that I stood there. This gives plein air a kind of energy and tension. This is not like photography which captures an instant -the scene changes as I struggle to get it painted. Rain showers and wind and flies landing in the paint are all part of it. Its the struggle that I enjoy about this type of painting.
